What do we do?

Children who experience traumatic events such as medical emergencies, car accidents, house fires, or other crises often face overwhelming fear, confusion, and emotional distress. First responders are trained to provide medical aid and meet the immediate physical needs of these children, however, their emotional needs - particularly their need for comfort and reassurance - are largely unmet. So, what is the solution? How can we help fill this gap and assist our first responders in providing the emotional comfort and stability these traumatized children need? Research and practical experience show that even a small act of comfort, such as receiving a stuffed animal, can make a significant difference in reducing anxiety and creating a sense of security and trust during these unfortunate events.

Little Lifesavers was created to help meet this need by ensuring first responders in our community have access to stuffed animals and other small items to give to these children in crisis, offering immediate comfort to those experiencing some of the most difficult and scariest moments of their lives. We do this by creating “Kid Kits,” a kit filled with stickers, kid band-aids, small toys, and stuffed animals. These kits are then placed on public safety units to be distributed to children affected by these disasters.
